Breathwork for stress: letting an overloaded body finally exhale

A weekend off rarely touches burnout. Conscious breathing gives the system that has been holding the load a way to stand down, and it is part of every session here.

The Practice

Does breathwork actually help with stress?

Breathwork is a complementary practice, not a substitute for medical or mental-health care, and it complements the broader stress-management approaches the American Psychological Association describes. It supports stress relief by directly engaging the nervous system through breath pattern, a slower exhale, a paced hold, a fuller inhale, rather than trying to think your way out of a stress response. When the breath pattern changes, the body's stress chemistry follows.

LA stress is a specific kind: the commute, industry pressure, an always-on creative economy, and the performing of wellness you are not actually feeling. It stacks in the nervous system over months, not days, and tends to live in the breath itself, shallow, chest-led, and fast. Coffee sharpens it. Cardio burns some of it off. Breathwork works differently, and works alongside whatever else you already do to manage stress.

How To Work With Us

Breathwork is part of a session, not a session on its own

We do not sell breathwork as a standalone appointment. Breath is part of every session here, whatever you book, and formal breathwork comes in when it is the thing that will help.

The way in is a Reiki session. We start with a conversation about how you actually are, and the session goes where it needs to, breath included. If you would rather work over a longer arc, that is one-on-one coaching.

How It Helps

How breathwork eases stress and burnout

  • Engages the nervous system directly

Changing the pattern of your breath changes the chemistry of your stress response. A skilled practitioner reads your state and adjusts the practice in real time, something a breathing app cannot do.

  • Releases held tension

Stress often sits in the jaw, shoulders, and chest long after the stressful moment has passed. Clients frequently describe the shift as a pressure valve finally releasing.

  • Builds a cumulative effect

Some clients feel a meaningful shift after one session. Others build a regular practice, and most find monthly or bi-monthly sessions create an effect that compounds over time.

  • Support for partners too

Jaime and Yonatan are married and share this practice. If you and your partner would both like support, you can each work one to one with us.

Your Visit

What a breathwork session for stress looks like

1

Arrival and intake

You tell us what kind of week it has been. Jaime or Yonatan assesses your baseline and chooses a technique and intensity that fits where you are.

2

Breath assessment

A brief check on your natural breath pattern, where you are holding, how shallow or full, whether your exhale is shorter than your inhale. This shapes the whole session.

3

Guided breathwork session

Conscious breathing, guided in real time. The technique varies by session. Nothing is forced. You can slow down or stop at any point.

4

Integration and grounding

We close with grounding and a few minutes of stillness to let the nervous system consolidate the shift before you leave the building.

I’ve been working with Jaime for over a year now. Her space is super calming and I find myself automatically smiling when I walk in the door. If you’re looking for a blend of fitness, mindfulness and life coaching with a healthy dose of relaxation, this is the place for you. I used to spend my time treating different parts of the body and mind in various places not considering the whole. Working at Word of Mouth has shown me a different way of approaching wellness uniting mind, body, emotion, spirit and community and it feels stickier and more transformative than other things I’ve done in the past. I can’t recommend it enough.

My session with Yonatan was very impactful. I was truly moved by his warm, gentle, and intuitive nature, and his genuine openness, which enabled the session to share a very connected and intimate space together. Overall, the physical aspect of the Reiki paired with the talking integration of my personal intention was very therapeutic, both physically and mentally. I noticed later that week how it was like a pressure valve that had been released, moving the blocked energy around and out of my body. I felt clearer, lighter, and more positive. Many thanks to Yonatan, I recommend his work highly.

I am incredibly grateful to have discovered Word of Mouth for my pilates and wellness journey. I've had a complicated relationship with exercise in my past, and knew it was time to really find a program that worked for me, I was looking for pilates instructors close to where I lived and this studio popped up. 5 months and over 25 sessions after my initial consultation, the overall feeling I can share is that of immense gratitude. I am stronger, more confident, and significantly more in tune with my body - both physically but also mentally. The studio is a welcoming & peaceful space (where I'm often met with a hug and a cup of tea!) where I can truly show up authentically as I am that day and they will tailor the practice to challenge me appropriately. Having 1 on 1 time with an experienced and intuitive teacher allows me to move at the pace that is appropriate for where I'm currently at. I especially love that we start and end each session with mindful breathing- it truly sets the tone for a holistic experience. The other amazing thing about this space is that it is not just pilates. Yonathan and his amazing partner Jaime allow for healing of the mind, body, and soul - with awesome offerings such as "reiki and chill" which is a beautiful communal experience to release and rejuvenate. I've also had the opportunity for reiki sessions and some breathwork. I always leave lighter and inspired. If you're new to pilates or a seasoned practitioner, don't hesitate to reach out to this amazing studio for a transformative and enriching experience. You won't regret it!

Good Questions

Breathwork for stress, answered

Honest answers about safety, what to expect, and how a session compares to an app or a workshop.

Not with guided facilitation at our pace. We always work within your comfortable range. You choose when to go deeper and when to ease off. Nothing is forced, and hyperventilation-style techniques are not part of our approach for stress sessions.
Please consult your cardiologist before any breathwork session if you have a history of cardiac events, POTS, or hypertension. Certain techniques involving breath holds or strong activation are contraindicated after cardiac events and can trigger lightheadedness or heart-rate changes in people with POTS. We have gentler formats available and will ask about your medical history before your first session. If you are pregnant, gentle breathwork is generally considered safe, but we avoid techniques that involve breath retention, so please disclose your pregnancy when booking.
An app gives you a timer and a tone. A session at Word of Mouth gives you a practitioner reading your state in real time, adjusting the technique, and staying present if something difficult surfaces. Co-regulation is the difference. An app can ease a mild stress spike. A guided session can move something that has been stuck.
These are normal physiological responses to breathwork. Crying is emotional release. Tingling is usually a shift that resolves quickly. Shaking is the nervous system discharging. We expect and welcome these responses and stay with you through them.
Both work. Group sessions create a shared energetic field that some clients find powerful. A 1:1 session is more adapted and allows more real-time adjustment. If you are new to breathwork, starting 1:1 gives you a clearer baseline.
Most clients find monthly or bi-monthly sessions create a cumulative effect. We do not prescribe a fixed frequency. Some people come once and feel a meaningful shift. Others build a regular practice over time.
