The Practice

Does sound healing help you sleep?

Sound healing can support deeper sleep by helping you wind down from the high-alert feeling that keeps sleep away, a shift that relaxation practices like the meditation techniques described by the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health also aim to support. Studies of music listening find people rate their sleep quality higher, and research on sound healing itself is still early. We go through the evidence in the science of sound healing. Some clients report faster sleep onset and a quieter first half of the night after an evening session.

Sound healing is complementary to, and not a replacement for, medical sleep care. If you have a diagnosed sleep disorder, please continue working with your physician alongside any wellness sessions.

Why It Works

How a session can help you settle toward sleep

Sleep loss rarely has one cause: a mind that loops through the day for an hour after lying down, a 3am wake-up with no path back to sleep, or a body that is exhausted but will not power down. Sound healing for sleep works differently from a noise-blocking app. Live instruments give your attention something slow to follow, and there's nothing for you to perform.

  • Long, sustained tones

Low-frequency gongs and ocean drums hold long tones you can sink into. It's closer to an invitation to slow down than background music.

  • Rhythm and attention

Research suggests brain activity can track a musical beat. We wouldn't stretch that into a promise about sleep, but a slow, steady sound is an easy place to rest your attention.

  • Slower breathing

We open with breath, and deliberate slow breathing has good evidence for raising a heart rate measure tied to the body's rest response. Your own response will vary.

  • Room to wind down

Time lying down with nothing to answer gives your body a chance to wind down. You are not forcing sleep. Reiki adds a second layer of support: explore reiki for sleep alongside sound.

Private, Not a Group Class

Private session versus group sound bath for sleep

A sleep-targeted session is a different product from a general relaxation event. Here is what sets a private session apart.

Format

Private sessions are 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 in our Los Angeles studio, not twenty to sixty people on mats in a shared studio.

Instrument Selection

Instruments are chosen for your nervous system and sleep goal in real time, not a fixed set built for a general audience.

Modality Depth

Sound, reiki, breathwork, and tea in a single session. A group event is typically sound only, with an occasional meditation intro.

Descent, Not a Journey

A general sound bath optimizes for relaxing. A sleep-targeted session optimizes for nervous-system descent, paced specifically toward rest.

Your Visit

What a sleep-focused session looks like

1

Tea arrival

You arrive at our private studio at 717 Highland Ave. We pour tea and let you decompress before anything begins.

2

Breathwork opens the descent

A short guided breathwork sequence helps you settle before sound begins. Jaime or Yonatan leads this portion, pacing it toward rest rather than energy.

3

Low gongs and sustained drone

Yonatan plays large gongs low and sustained, alongside ocean drum and sometimes soft vocal toning, late in the session as you settle further.

4

Quiet closing

No jarring ending. If you drift off, that's fine. Yonatan simply continues and adjusts to support you staying there.

If sleep is your main reason for coming, an evening booking between 5 and 8pm means you go home already winding down.

Word of Mouth is amazing. I’m one of those people who tends to be in their heads all the time, so when i first learned about energy work and reiki, i was skeptical. However, I’ve now done two sessions of energy healing with Jaime and i just have to say — wow. First of all, the space is immaculate. It’s beautiful, clean, and so peaceful. I feel my body relaxing just by being there. Second, the energy healing sessions are so helpful. As someone who has spent a lot of time in traditional therapy, i appreciate that the arc of each session involves a talking/coaching component in addition to breathwork, healing movement, and reiki. And my god, the reiki — i can actually feel what jaime is doing in session and it puts my mind and body in a whole other plane, a deeply relaxed liminal space. i left my session today feeling deeply relaxed and like my energy was made of champagne bubbles, which felt both good and surprising considering i came into the session feeling stressed and upset. (oh, and i learned jaime is so dedicated to her craft that she went through reiki master training TWICE just for the love of it?! if you want to work with a master, book an appointment here). If you’re curious about healing work, energy work, breath work, reiki, or any of the other somatic healing modalities, don’t miss this place. Your body will thank you.

Good Questions

Sound healing for sleep, answered

Honest answers about falling asleep during the session, medication, timing, and what a session can and cannot do.

We can't promise a physiological change. Studies of music listening find people rate their sleep quality higher, without a change in insomnia severity, and research on sound healing is still early. Some clients report faster sleep onset and deeper first-half sleep after an evening session. Results vary, and sound healing is not a medical sleep treatment.
That is fine. Falling asleep is a perfectly good way to spend the session. Yonatan continues playing and adjusts the instrument selection to support you staying in that state rather than waking you. You will not miss anything by sleeping through it.
Sound healing is generally compatible with sleep medications. We are not a medical practice and cannot advise on medication interactions. If you are uncertain, check with your prescriber before coming. We never recommend changing or reducing medication without physician guidance.
An evening session makes sense if sleep is your main reason for coming, because you go home already winding down. We don't have research on timing. If you'd like to try it, book between 5 and 8pm. Morning sessions are also available.
Gongs can be intense at full volume in a live setting. For sleep-specific sessions, Yonatan plays large gongs at lower amplitude and longer sustain, more like a deep hum than a crash. If you are particularly sensitive to loud sounds, mention it when you book.
Yes. These are some of the most common reasons clients book. Postpartum hormonal shifts, grief, and burnout can all disrupt sleep without an obvious single cause. Sound healing doesn't treat the diagnosis, and we recommend continuing any concurrent medical or therapeutic care alongside sessions.
Private sessions run $250 to $325 for 60 to 90 minutes. Some clients notice a difference the first night, and others take a few sessions. See our sound healing cost breakdown for the full picture.
